There's a professor at Cornell University who has the following overview and
Q&A web pages re: DHA and ARA in infant formulas on the Cornell Cooperative
Extension's site:

Interesting to read the reason why ARA was added with the DHA. Also
interesting, it's still unknown how much of each of them should be in
formula. Research hasn't answered that question yet.

An example of his Q&A:

Q. Are the fatty acids biologically the same as those in breastmilk?

A. Yes, DHA and ARA from micro-organisms is exactly the same as those in
breastmilk.
