This is a response from a Colorado LLL Leader who is from Chili
originally. She's not subscribed, but is happy to accept private
correspondence.

Hello Gina,
Thank you for that, I don't participate in Lactanet anymore, but I
will be happy to answer.
Can you do it for me? feel free to give my email address.

I believe that women were told not to breastfeed (still). I heard it
pretty often growing up and my own mother weaned my brother when
pregnant with my sister. She is a nurse and stills believes it was not
safe to do it (the topic came up during my second pregnancy). My aunt
is a midwife and she strongly encourage me to wean my older son as
well.

So, while my own breastfeeding experience is much recent, I believe
the mainstream was to wean when you get pregnant. If more research is
needed, I will be happy to check more serious resources.

Thanks for forwarding,

Paulina
