I often tell moms to use a piece of toilet tissue in the disposable diaper.
This way they can see right away if it is wet. Some of the disposable diapers
release a gel when the baby urinates, it is difficult to determine if it is
wet. The tissue works great.

I check for wetness of a disposable diaper by pinching a small amount (from
the outside of the diaper) between my fingers. A "wet diaper" feels more
squishy (slippery texture) than a "dry diaper." This also enables one to get
to the "wetness" that has gone deep into the diaper.
