Actually, slow weight gain is not, of itself, a diagnosis or indeed a problem.  It is an indication that further investigation is required to rule out problems.  If the baby is achieving milestones and no other symptoms can be identified, then there is no problem. It would be unacceptable to expose an infant to the risks associated with supplementation simply to satisfy the growth standard.
