A quick case history: mother of 3 month old (successfully breastfeeding at
breast) is returning to work. Baby is refusing breastmilk from a bottle. We
considered nipple confusion but the baby will take formula from the bottle.
Baby also refuses breastmilk from a cup or other alternative methods. Then
mother found that the milk tastes terrible. Now we are focusing on lipase.
Mother has scalded the milk but baby still refuses it.
Question: exactly what causes some milk to be higher in lipase and thus alter
the taste? Can the cause be avoided? Is it diet related? Any other
suggestions to help this baby take breastmilk while mom is at work?

Thanks
Debbie
