Here are the newspaper reports:

You'll probably need to cut and paste...

The doctors think the baby should have cow's milk instead of breastmilk
(somehow that's healthier) and is not properly cared for because he has no
meat or eggs (but he has plenty protein from mom's milk, nuts, yeast, etc.)
The doctors freaked out about the family's "radical" attitudes against
chemicals in their baby's environment and cosleeping/extended nursing
ideas. They found a 9.1 hemoglobin (should be 11 -- mild anemia is not
uncommon in toddlers -- especially in one sick with a virus according to
medical literature) and had no other evidence to support their diagnosis
of "failure to thrive" made so they could remove the child from his
parents' care. The baby is in the 25% for weight and the grandmother
described him in the New York paper as "always happy" prior to his being
ripped from his mother's breast (OK that last part was my words).

I've known the father for many years through phone and internet and know
that he is into research-based practices (every angle of nutrition and
child care), seeking to follow the teachings of Continuum Concept and
Attachment Parenting International for psychological well-being and always
searching for guidance about proper vitB12 sources and proper fatty acids
etc. He had local support groups and a vegan/natural parenting website
(which suddenly has disappeared)which was more on the placenta-eating side
than I might be personally , but nothing to damage the health of a child.

Please let me know if you have New York Attorney suggestions or other local
expert (M.D. especially) referrals. linda [log in to unmask]
