I hesitate to add to this complex and passionate discussion, and with all
due respect, I think the basic education of the practitioner should be
factored in quite a bit re reimbursement rates. While I feel I am quite a
good IBCLC, I would not in general, compare an IBCLC to a speech therapist,
occupational therapist, or physical therapist. These latter professionals,
at least in USA, are generally master's prepared. This is certainly not the
case for all, but a very few, IBCLCs. I realize that the basic education of
the IBCLC is changing, and that is a good thing.
