Hilary, I'd say that was certainly informed choice -- you informed that
mother as to what her child was requesting!

About 10 days ago I was called to the local GP surgery, along with a
colleague. There we found a young woman who had gone to see her dr with
severe abdo pain and - you;ve guessed it - was in labour! Having not
realized she was pregnant it was a bit of a surprise (understatment). But
the birth went very smoothly and the baby girl was fine. The ambulance crew
were waiting outside, anxious to take her straight to hospital, but we felt
it was better to wait a few minutes as she was rather shocked. She declined
to hold the baby at first but baby was crying loudly. New mum asks why baby
is crying so I said 'because she's hungry and want's her mummy'. 'What shall
I do?' she asks 'Just hold her next to your boob' says I. Before you can
blink baby makes straight for the breast and sucks in the nipple like a
little vacuum cleaner before mum has time to think about what's happening.
The ambulance crew are even more anxious to move, but have to wait now while
baby finishes her feed!
Later in the hospital thoughtless person offers mum a bottle, 'Oh no, I'm
breastfeeding ' says mum. And she is still. Well I know it wasn't exactly
informed choice but what the heck?
