I have a mom who has been coming to my BF moms' support group with the
cutest little girl named Camden.  She is just 4 months and has round rosy
cheeks and blue eyes.  Birth weight was 7#10 oz, naked weight on my
BabyWeigh today was 11# 12 oz. Since about 2 months she has been sleeping
9-10 hours at night without waking.  Mom nurses "on demand" during the
day.  About a month ago her weight gain practically stopped, but she had
continued to grow in length and head circumference.  Mom intiated a feed
or 2 more during the day and added another feeding at night before she
herself went to bed--Camden had been down about 1 1/2-2 hours by then.
Camden gained about 7 oz that week.  Mom didn't initiate extra day
feedings after that, but continued with the extra feed before she (the
mom) retired.  Weight gain has been about 3 oz a week.  Now Camden is
waking several times during the night--all since mom initiated that extra
feed.  What should a 4 month old be gaining per week?  Mom in the last
week has tried a little rice cereal also, although she knows Camden
doesn't need it.  Pediatrician doesn't seem worried.  But mom's getting
all kinds of advice from others, mostly that Camden needs to gain more.
Baby is alert, does all the age appropriate things and seems fine.  Mom
is about 5' 4" and dad is around 5' 9-10".  Is Camden just petite?  She's
in the 20% for both length and weight on the growth chart.  What do you
think?
