Hi. I've been a "Lurker" for awhile, but really need some suggestions for a
difficult case I'm working with.  Mom has very large (J cup) breasts that
are extremely soft, nipples fairly flat.  Her first child (now 3) would
never latch so mom quit.  Now, second baby is 10 days old and is suddenly
refusing the breast. Mom really wants to breastfeed. When I saw mom last
week we got baby latched, but with difficulty as moms nipples are soft and
very "mushy".  Also breast is so large it almost appears to smother the
baby.  I have never seen such large, soft breasts.
 Anyway, Mom has not been able to get babe latched well at home more than 3
or 4 times per day. I started her pumping and she gets 1-1 1/2 ounces in ten
minutes and has been feeding this to the baby with a Medela Nuk nipple, but
reports that the baby doesn't really like bottle nipple either.  It took dad
over half an hour to get baby to take 1 ounce.  Baby gags when nipple is put
in all the way.  I'm not sure if breast refusal is because  moms supply is
low because of baby sleeping through the night at one week, or if latch is
too difficult for the baby because of moms large soft breasts.  Has anyone
worked with breasts life this before??
