Vicki,
I've thought about you several times since you first posted about your
baby. It kept nagging at me that you eat so much soy (I am also a
vegan, but I eat no soy at all (by choice)--and I have celiac disease
and eat no gluten, so I really do understand the challenges). I
honestly believe that many if not even most cases of oversupply/OAMER
have their origins in the infant's oral-motor function, but I also very
frequently see food allergies related to OAMER. It is difficult to know
what is causal, as babies may eat defensively (from birth) when
allergies are severe or they may develop sensitivities to foods from
the damage caused to the gut by rapid motility. In either case, I often
have to help mom hunt down allergies when we are treating for OAMER.

Interestingly, I have recently seen a baby who was diagnosed with
reflux, whose mother has OAMER and who is clearly struggling with food
allergies. There are so many similarities and I have referred this baby
for cranial-sacral therapy. Optimizing the latch means making it
possible for the baby to latch well and while it seems like what is
happening is the baby is not latching properly on purpose, I do not
think this is the case. When you feel what is going on inside the
baby's body, you realize that not all is as it seems. For example, many
babies have restriction in their diaphragms, causing improper
peristalsis and reflux. I strongly urge you to see a CST for your
little guy.

As to allergies, babies are supposed to have leaky guts, but moms are
not. When the mom has a leaky gut, her baby is exposed to far more
proteins that he would otherwise. I never address food allergies in
babies without addressing the mother's own gut problems. Of course,
most moms do not want to admit they have food allergies, but whenever
you truly suffer from taking a food out of your diet, that is a very
good sign you are allergic to that food. I discovered that I felt much
better without soy when my son was allergic to it as an infant. Once I
began to really research soy, I decided it was not a healthy food
anyway and am much happier without it.

Anyway, I think there is a link between allergies, diagnosis of reflux
(which, IMO, is a symptom, not a disease), OAMER and structural
restrictions. I do hope you find your answers.
