It's also possible that this child has a soft palate problem such as a
submucousal cleft, or a weakness of the muscle that elevates the soft
palate.  With this condition, the baby has great difficulty developing
negative intraoral pressure.  Milk is also often lost through the nose
during swallowing as the infant is unable to close off the nasopharynx
completely.
