Dear Winnie, #days, # wet diapers is a "rule of thumb" that is been around
for ages.  I honestly don't think  there is any documentation other than a
lot of clinical experience.  I think it would be very  hard to get a real
handle on a study of this sort, unless study done at very non
interventionist, Baby Friendly hospitals.

I use the # days, # wet diapers.  I also tell parents more dirty than wet,
first few days changing to more wet than dirty  by end of first week (7-8
days :-)  and talk about the general color and consistency changes we
expect to see.  Saves calls about  "diarrhea".  Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
