The theory is, if anything is wrong, somehow breastfeeding is to blame :-b sorry I'm grumpy, it is passed my bedtime.

Hi all,
Can anyone help me figure out how to help a mother who has been told by her pediatrician and a pediatric dietician to wean night breastfeeding her 17 month old daughter? The child did not gain any weight in a month and has been slowly dropping in her weight percentile from 50% when she was 9 months old to 5% now. Her height has remained in 50%. Sorry, i didn’t ask her about the head circumference. The doctor feels that the night nursing is interfering with the child consuming calories from solid foods during the day. Ped wants child to consume protein rich foods during day time. Mother reports that she eats 3 small meals a day plus a few snacks. Mother cosleeps with child and feels it would be impossible to wean night feedings (duh). Child does not breastfeed often during day. Can anyone explain what might be this doctor and dietitian’s rationale? Are their any pediatric dietitians on the list?
thanks,
Mary Westra RN, IBCLC
