I am interested in becoming an IBCLC and I would like to get some clarification on the education portion. I have read that it would be better to get a degree in nursing. Is this the case? If this is the case, I was thinking of getting an Associates in nursing (for now and then continuing to a Bachelors after I get an job as an IBCLC) and getting the lactation care experience while I went to school. Can you get an Associates in nursing online or partially online? If so partially, how much would be on campus? Also, I think that one school in America provides the education in human lactation and breastfeeding as distance learning, but it's 200 hours. Is that correct? What does 200 hours actually mean? And if you have any other experience or advice, I would really appreciate it. This is all very new and overwhelming!
