Just another thought.

If your nurses attend this off-site dinner, I think the formula reps will
also be trying to find out how your nurses feel about implementing BFI. If
the nurses are at all in opposition to BFI, or are finding it difficult to
change, the formula company wants to know this, and since the meeting is
off-site, and in a less professional, and more congenial setting, the nurses
may be more likely to confide this to the rep. Of course he will cultivate
these feelings of discontent. This will build his relationship with them,
they may feel more justified and stalwart in their oppostion to BFI, and he
can use this information in his next sales call to the next hospital.

The bottom line is who pays for this dinner, and who is "hosting" it. What
if the formula company weren't presenting any product at all - would you
promote it to your nurses? You shouldn't.

(who used to sell textbooks to teachers. I think my sales experience in
educational publishing is valid, in that the decision influencers I needed
to contact (teacher and nurses) are similar in that they may not be
experienced in dealing with sales representatives and saavy to their
tactics. We often used lunches and dinners, and these were such a treat to
the teachers, that they had big impact.)
