This evening, motivated by Marla's post about the insipid Wal-Mart
advertising, I took some information about the WHO code to my local
Wal-Mart and had a little conversation with the assistant manager.  She
was extremely pleasant as I told her that as a Wal-Mart customer and
stock holder, as well as a nursing mother, LLL Leader and IBCLC, I was
very distressed about the advertising campaign.

She said she was a former nursing mother and had no idea that this code
existed and that there were "people who watched out for this kind of
stuff" (she really has no idea).  She asked what they would have to do
to be in compliance with the WHO code and said she would notify the
appropriate people at the store and corporate level.

She also related the story of a woman who was asked to leave that
store's snack bar last year.  She was asked to kick the woman out,
refused to do so and the complainer "went over her head" and the woman
was asked to go to the restroom.  Jodi (the asst. manager) was
apparently very upset (and she was tearing up as she told me the story)
and was chewed out by the offended customer.  I believe it started a
firestorm of letters in the local paper, but this all occured before I
moved here.  I'm sure Lori W. can fill in the details.  Jodi seemed
genuinely interested that I was so concerned and spent quite a bit of
time talking with me.

I also emailed my complaints via the company's web site.
