Oh Pat, for heaven's sake, we are showing our age here!

But I agree, these are wonderful articles, and I have a huge folder full of
these and more, along with the book. Rubin's ideas are very much ingrained
in my own philosophy of care for the mother.

Let me just pick up on your conviction that Rubin's ideas are still
relevant, despite the lit that suggests otherwise  (Martell & MItchell,
1984, Templeton et al, 1988). I'm currently working up a project that looks
at the hormones in relation to these 'behaviors' that Rubin identified in
the 1960s. Frankly, I think Rubin was waaaaaaaay ahead of her time, and
even though she never talked about breastfeeding per se, much of what she
says is, in my opinion, critical to understanding the breastfeeding
mother's needs.
