My understanding is that colored leakage from the breast (no matter what
color) is probably not abnormal. Serous (ie clear fluid) or clear fluid
tinged with blood is a red flag for more serious underlying breast disease.
It should at least be checked by a breast specialist who can rule out that
the lump is lactation related rather than a tumor of some sort. This can be
done non-invasively with ultrasound. Remember, lumps in the breast that
don't resolve within 72 hours with conservative care merit follow-up. The
literature reports that "doctor distraction" is the a major reason why
diagnosis of breast cancer is often delayed. Lactation is a huge
distractor.
