I would like to respond to the question of the mom with  the +RPR.  The
RPR needs to be confirmed with a direct trepenomal test to confirm it
before it can be considered positive for syphillis.  The are reasons that
a RPR or VDRL can show false positives: for example, the presence of
another illness such as lupus, or even a recent bout of the flu, or the
use of some medications. Since this woman has had a +RPR before with a
negative direct trepenomal test, someone should investigate why she is
coming up with + RPR's for her own peace of mind as well as to rule out
any other health condition that might need to be dealt with.
