Dear Lac-netters,
I feel a bit uninformed to be asking this question, but since we are
all here to support each other, I will ask away!!
I was recently in Mexico, along the Pacific coast where the weather is
VERY humid and warm. My 23 week old exclusively breastfed grand nephew
was with us, as were his parents. We would go in the water every day
and the baby loved to suck the salt water off of his clothes as fast as
he could. He takes milk from the breast or EBM from a bottle. All of
the salt made him pretty thirsty so we gave him some purified water in
a bottle.. he loved it. AND, after breastfeeding to sleep to go down
for his naps, sometimes he would wake up in about 20 minutes.. an ounce
of water and he'd be right back to sleep. This is a very healthy,
chubby well fed baby. He sits up unassisted and is in a terrific mood
unless tired or hungry.
SOOO.. How much water is too much for a 23 week old, soon to be 24
weeks and READY for solids??? Is it OK as long as he is not denied
calories/fat/carbs as needed? Is there any danger at this age? My
nephew and niece-in-law were told INFANTS could be given too much water
(This baby had NO water until this trip) and they are having trouble
getting past this and, I don't have the right knowledge to help them so
I am asking you!!
Thanks in advance,
ANNIE
