Dear Lactnet Friends:

This is a personal reaction.

As I've been in this field of breastfeeding work for over 40 years, I have
seen a big shift in terminology.

People don't talk about breastfeeding any more.  They, mothers and
professionals alike, refer to it as "latching".

This pains me.

To me, it is like talking about "penetrating" instead of "love making."

While the latch is important, it is only one part of the relationship of
breastfeeding.

Probably nothing I can do about this, except holler once in a while.
