Rachel points out that healthy babies should be demand fed or cue fed. Yes,
good point. With the poor gaining baby who was still below b.wt at 14 days,
this is not a healthy baby. and usually baby has been taking in far less
than what he needs and parents often are not sure what to do. As such, I
generally do recommend a sort of schedule like "feed xxx mls AT LEAST every
2 to 3 hrs." In fact, I usually write down something like "feed about 45 mls
every 2 hrs or 70 mls every 3 hrs" (for example). And I also say that the
baby can have more if he indicates he wants more. Of course all the while
working on good bf technique and increasing supply. f/u closely and the baby
should get to full bf at the breast.
