'Dublin's Rotunda could not cope with
women staying there too long!'
Fiona is right that the impetus was to find a way to give one-to-one care to
all women, and that meant there had to be turnover in the labor ward. (I am
not trying to start a new thread on this topic!)
BUT the Rotunda is a different hospital, with a separate administration,
from National Maternity Hospital. NMH is in Holles Street, the Rotunda is
across town, and while all hospital care for birth in Ireland is heavily
influenced by the NMH ideology, it did not originate in the Rotunda.
Despite significant changes in the lives of Irish women in recent years, NMH
still boasts of using AML, and it has repercussions for all birthing women
in the entire society. Contact me privately if this interests you, as it is
getting off-topic for Lactnet.
