Might I venture a different take on this question.  Breastfeeding might not
be a medical issue any more than any other physiologic fucntion is a medical
matter. (It becomes medical when something is awry - but we need to watch
that whatever is awry is not so because of medical interventions)
Artificial feeding, however, is a medical issue.
