One of the nurses last night called me asking if a mom with this disease
could breastfeed. having NO idea what it was, I called one of the peds I
work with who said it was not on the "contraindicated" list, so she thought
the mom could.

In my very limited medical dictionary it relates this to be a "genetic
disorder characterized by a disturbance in porphyrin metabolism with
resultant increase in the formation and excretion of porphyrins. ....
Large amounts of phorphuyrins are excreted in the urine and feces (thus the
mom is concerned her milk will be high in porphyrins and asks if this would
hurt her baby.)

I'd like to know if anyone on the list knows somthing about this and could
give me additional, more reassuring information for this mom...
