I, too, can attest to the miracle of a complete milk production after a lay
midwifery student nearly died after childbirth. There was a moment where
they even thought she would be on a heart transplant list as her only hope
for survival. Amazingly she survived, after 17 units of blood, lots of
prayers and support from loved ones, and some very dedicated Doctors. When
she asked for me to come to her ICU room a few days after the major trauma
event I did not have her at the top of my priority list. I just couldn't
believe I needed to rush there (she had just come off of the ventilator) when
I had so many moms going home who needed help. I made my visit to her late
in the day.....mistake. This wonderful woman cried when she saw me. Her
biggest concern was her baby and trying to make milk for her child. I
reviewed everything with her, the possibility of not producing like she would
have if her experience had been the norm, etc. This woman surprised us all.
She ended up recovering beautifully and produced a full supply of milk also.
I found this out when I saw her around 7 weeks post partum. You could have
blown me over with a feather. I will NEVER say NEVER.
