Hello fellow LactNetters!
I am catching up on the archives after a very busy BAM and was reminded of a mother in our clinic. She insisted on speaking with our lactation professional even though all the boxes in her chart were marked bottle feeding. We were slow to catch on, but after several minutes a revelation was attained. Mom was bottle feeding...EXPRESSED BREASTMILK. Although we support feeding at the breast, considerations must also be made for moms that choose to feed breastmilk even thought they are not breast feeding.
History Question:
When/why did breastfeeding replace nursing as the preferred term for feeding a baby at the breast?
Thanks in advance...Nora
