Dear Heather,

I am sorry to say that I do know of places where infants are often tested
for hypoglycemia by heel stick in the first 1-2 hours after birth. I work
there. I gave the WHO guidelines on hypoglycemia to our chief of neonatology 5
months ago and he still has not read them yet.
The good news is that we gave a four hour staff inservice on
breastfeeding two days ago and will be giving it to the Family Practice
Residents in two weeks.
