Like so many others, I struggle with "modern" women's thinking re: birth
every day and grieve for those who do not realize what they have missed or
are missing out on when they don't even bother to educate themselves on
what the norm is. There is so much information out there on the "norm"
that I find it puzzling that women are not pointed in the right direction.
Case in point - the recent homebirth of Kris Rogers' 1st grandbaby which
she announced thru Lactnet. Congratulations! Way to go Charity! What a
fantastic accomplishment - a footling breech HOME birth!!! Wow!!!
That was my initial reaction and even tho I don't know Charity (just thru
her mother-in-law) I couldn't be more proud than if it was MY own daughter
who had birthed this way.
The reaction of the staff at work today (Kris and I work together at the
same hospital) was more than negative to say the least. "Is she crazy?
How could she be so irresponsible to even think about a HOME birth let
alone a breech birth? That's malpractice! The midwife who delivered her
must be nuts! I would never do that! She should know better! Etc.,
etc.,etc"...I think you get the point. How sad that we as women cannot
support another woman in her birth choices.
