In response to Magda's post, the intent of the request for help was to
convince Chick-fil-A that there would be support to help defray the
significant costs of a corporately sponsored campaign to educate the
public about the benefits of breastfeeding. My selection of CFA was
based on the opportunity of the moment as the popular cows advertising
campaign could tie in well with an important breastfeeding message. It
looked as if other posts tried to answer the questions of those who
wondered "What is Chick-fil-A?", probably wanting an answer before
deciding whether to e-mail a promise of support if CFA decided to go
forward with the promotion. Vegetarians, as an example, might have a
"conflict" of interest in supporting a meat serving business, even
though it might have been helping with a massive public breastfeeding
education endeavor.

The request for support by eating a meal there or ordering a t-shirt
with the "Cows Udderly Agree" theme was to encourage CFA to adopt the
campaign with assurance that they would recoup some the large expense of
going forward with the project. I still believe the cause of an
extensive public outreach with our important message would have been
greatly achieved by this or a similar coopertive effort between a
business friendly to breastfeeding and those of us who have the
knowledge and passion, but lack the funds and notoriety of a well-known
ad campaign in the US.

However.......

this is now a "mooooooooot" point. I have just received an e-mail from
CFA explaining why they can not participate as requested, although they
said that it was a good cause. I have e-mailed them, asking permission
to forward a copy of the letter to all the points of contact I have
made. I expect to hear from CFA in the morning.

I do ask that if someone wants to reply to CFA's decision, that it will
ONLY be to thank them for considering the proposal, and NOT to respond
negatively. After all, we were *requesting* a commitment from them ..
and assuring them of ours. They had not promised nor are obligated to
agree to such. They were verbally supportive of the cause and wished us
well in our efforts. Further e-mails promising support if they change
their mind will have no effect.

If I get permission to forward their letter, I will do so.

Thanks to all for trying. Chick-fil-A, for one, did learn that there is
a *lot* of gracious support for those who would be willing to promote
breastfeeding. Somewhere along the way, the story of this campaign will
be told by someone from CFA, and who knows? Perhaps another
organization, with even more name-recognition than CFA will "latch on"
to the idea of a corporate/grass roots cooperative effort and will
advertise the benefits of breastfeeding on a very large scale through
its own promotion.

Thank you all, again.

Sandy Hess
