A pubmed search of "rebreathing from bedding" will yield some good articles
for better information.

I'd like to make it clear that rebreathing is not about occluding the
airway. I also discourage moms from pressing a finger into the breast and I
allow noses to touch breast.

Rebreathing involves exhaling carbon dioxide into a close space (like face
down in soft bedding or head and face covered while breastfeeding.) and
inhaling oxygen-poor air. Within a very few minutes, the baby's condition
can deteriorate to make it impossible for him to pull his head back or turn
his head.

These are not early babies, or babies with "something else wrong", as I
initially thought.

Pat, I'm not sure our written policy has changed yet, but our manager put
out an alert that changed our practice, and she's finding me a copy of that.
