barbara said, ", her 13 month old son Hunter who is
still nursing and
my
husband and I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and
got kicked out!!
No, it
wasn't for nursing in public, it was because Hunter
was barefoot!! We
had carried
him in, so Stacy could find Dr Jay's book on
Nighttime Parenting or
co-sleeping. While she was looking for it, Dan set
Hunter down in the
play area to
play. The salesclerk came over and told us we were not
allowed in the
store
without shoes and we would have to leave. I was
dumbstruck! !"

barbara and others, to me, this sounds exactly like
breastfeeding-mom-harrassment and was likely a
salesclerk who was clueless. Look up your state or
province's health code and see if there was a reason
for it. I know there is no health code against
barefeet in colorado and a lot of other states but
many times the "health code policy" is cited. I
inform those individuals that there is NO code against
barefeet. I accept that it might be a store policy
but I will not let them blame the state. there is a
group on yahoogroups that engages in barefoot advocacy
and they have a good website- I think it's at
http://www.unshod.org/

my son never wears shoes.

Kate, http://systems.cs.colorado.edu/~kolina/advantages-of-formula.html (new, working URL) Mom to Ursula (9), Sage (7!!), Benno (3) Thinking that everyone needs shoes all the time to have healthy feet is like thinking all babies, even breastfed, need bottles. http://listserv.uts.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/parent-l for great parenting talk!
