It seems I have to brag again about the LC's here in Ohio. Cleveland has
had for the at least a couple years what is called the Baby, Toy, and
Toddler Fair at a large convention center. Last year our state LC
organization decided that breastfeeding needed to be represented at such
an event. Of course exhibit space is outlandishly expensive and no one
wanted to give us a break as a non-profit, so Medela stepped in and paid
half the fee. They also lent a Baby Checker scale (to weigh babies who
came by) as a carrot to get parents to stop at our table. Our local LC
networking group manned the table. This year we lobbied hard and got to
also have a Rock and Rest area (we had to pay for it too-- next year we
will lobby that it is a public service and we shouldn't pay for the
space) where BF moms could stop and nurse in one of 2 rocking chairs
behind a lacy floor standing screen. We again had the scale and the
financial help from Medela. We had lots of moms stop and talk to us, ask
us questions, tell us their stories. I don't know how much difference we
made, but we were there.

Our table had the 3 part display board put together by our Ohio Lactation
Consultant Association with photos and different handouts, copies of
Riordan and Auerbach, Breastfeeding Answer Book, Hale's Medications and
Mother's Milk, and Huggins' The Nursing Mother's Companion. We also had
a list of the LC's at all the area hospitals so we could tell moms-to-be
a specific name to ask for when they deliver.

where we had a beautiful, sunny fall day to enjoy the brightly colored
leaves
