For your case scenario, if she does not continue with weaning, I probably would recommend that the mother change out all her kit to a new sterile kit, do a clean catch culture and sensitivity of her milk, also do a nipple-areolar skin culture. Ensure a thorough disinfectant cleaning of the actual pump housing unit, with the cleaner that is used in hospital, ensure it sits or stays wet for the full 3 or 4 minutes that is usually recommended. Do this on a regular basis. Consider having her doctor prescribe an anti-inflammatory med for around the clock use like every 6 or 8 hr (Toradol? ) . Also have mother take regular probiotics. This definitely sounds like unresolved infectious process that cultures should show and then follow with appropriate treatment.
