I didn't say that I don't touch the breast - I do sometimes - but I can
verbally instruct mom or show her on my breast model where to compress and
when she sees the drops, it's a real revelation. I then explain the
difference in colostrum (It's like honey or syrup - so baby will suck 4-5
times before swallowing) and milk.
And the wide open mouth is essential - as pointed out in a subsequent post.
Moms are in such a hurry that they push the nipple in the baby's mouth with
the first opening. If you wait for the first 4-5 "lip smacks" you will get a
wide mouth.
