I used to like the Evenflo elite and ultra, but they stopped making
those. Then I recommended the evenflo comfi (which was the ultra, with
a different shape bottle). What I loved about the comfi/ultra was that
it was the widest nipple that would fit on a "regular" bottle - like the
ones that fit on quality electric breastpumps. And I liked the fact
that it had a short teat, so the baby's lips could get to the wide base
(my main complaint with the Avent is that the teat is too long, making
the wide base irrelevant.)

Now Evenflo made the comfi nipple very narrow, so I can no longer
recommend it. Grr. I imagine it was because it was a real pain to get
the ultra nipple into the ring that held it on the bottle, and because
it sometimes collapsed if the baby chewed hard. But these were very
minor shortcomings.

Now I am recommending the Playtex natural latch nipple (which has a long
teat, but is very soft, so baby can still usually get onto the fat
base). I've just discovered a new one by Gerber called comfort latch
which has a great shape (wide base, short teat) but I can't find the
bottles for it anywhere. It does fit on the Avent bottle, but is has a
different venting system, and leaks a bit from under the cap. If I ever
manage to find the "Gerber Premium feeding system" bottle that goes with
the nice nipple, I'll post my impression of it.

This information is my personal clinical judgement about the relative
merits of artificial nipples on the market currently, and is not to be
construed as or quoted by any manufacturer as a professional endorsement
of any product.
