My grandson, who was born prematurely, was found to have low haemoglobin at
about 10 months. He was not eating much in the way of solids, and had been
exclusively breastfed since birth (no vitamins, no supplemental iron). On
the recommendation of his pediatrician, he took supplemental iron drops for
one month. After that, his iron was normal so the drops were discontinued.
His intake of solids has increased since and his iron has stayed high.

So wouldn't adding iron drops be the most obvious solution to a baby with
low iron?

Teresa
