Megan says
<<and most say that they were instructed by the maternity nurses to
achieve a proper latch with the classic cradle hold and shoving the baby
onto the breast with the goal of getting MOST of the areola into his/her
mouth. Many moms think that to latch on a baby correctly, they should not
be able to see much if any of the top of the areola.>>

Tch, tch, tch, Megan. No no -- not shoving the baby on the breast -- shoving
the breast into the baby's mouth! If the nurse says to shove the baby on the
breast, I figure she's one step up the evolutionary ladder.....most want the
mom to shove the breast into the mouth like a bottle -- and get the ENTIRE
areola into the baby's mouth. Haven't you seen the moms shoving a bit of the
breast tissue under the baby's upper lip so they are compliant? SO dreadfully
useful. I remind moms that some ladies have areola the size of a dinner plate.
It would take a mouth like a carp to get on the whole thing!!

Good post. The rest of it was spot on!!
