The local station here in Pittsburgh filmed their own segment which was shown
on the 5pm and 11pm news. They said they never received Medela's VNR. The
reporter and crew came to our WIC Breastfeeding Clinic and interviewed a
physician(who discussed benefits) and a nursing mom(who beautifully discussed
how she was helped by a supportive pediatrician and LC). They also gave out
the Breastfeeding Helpline number.............I was the lucky LC on call the
next day!! It was what we would consider a busy day, from 8am-4pm I answered
23 calls. Most were typical calls, definitely 3 calls were from nervous
moms........2 people actually commented on the show with one saying"it seemed
so exaggerated"...other WIC staff didn't think it was too bad. We all know too
much.
I appreciated the information received on Lactnet.......I gave info to the WIC
Breastfeeding Administrator, who in turn contacted the Health Dept. Public
Relations who contacted the local station. My supervisor e-mailed all WIC
staff and also discussed with local hospital LC's.........while not yet over
the Hope episode, I for one am happy with the lemonade that came from the
lemon(that's my positive note Kathy:)
