Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on my question! Sorry to belabor
this, but I have yet another question. I really haven't learned very
detailed information about breastfeeding (though I'm working on it!). And I
have real problems going on just my personal experience! So please bear with
me. My impression from your responses leads me to consider breast shells as
generally not too useful. I had thought about them myself as I suspected my
nipples were at least a little flat, but didn't pursue this route as it just
seemed too weird and possibly not justified. OK, here's my next question: in
view of this, is it appropriate to tell a mom with flat/inverted nipples (as
anticipatory guidance) that even with correct latch and sucking patterns,
she MAY feel nipple discomfort/pain with latch and after a feeding for the
first week or so due to her type of nipples? My concern about this would be
that she might assume that pain was due to this and not pursue other, more
correctable causes of nipple pain. I eagerly await your thoughts!!! TIA
