Baby is now 3 weeks old, and weighs 6 lb 6 oz clothed (from
birthweight of 5 lb 4 oz, naked). Mom has been breastfeeding both
sides with breast compression, then bottle-feeding approximately 2 oz
of formula. She estimates that she breastfeeds 7 times/day, and her
husband gives some bottles. She has pumped sporadically with the
Lactina.

Today the baby transferred 1 oz total from both breasts! Just last
week we estimated that the baby took only 4 ml. The highest milk
transfer I had previously recorded was 0.2 oz. I can easily squirt
milk out of both nipples, as can the pump. I am very, very thrilled
obviously, as is the mom. She has been taking 2 capsules 2 times a
day of More Milk Plus.

She ordered the Lact-aid, and got the baby on beautifully. The baby
took 1.4 oz of formula and then popped off looking satisfied.

I encouraged her to pump at least twice a day (of course more would
be better, but I'm afraid she won't do any pumping if it's too
overwhelming). I also said she could experiment with keeping the
formula at 1.5 oz and just breastfeeding if the baby seemed to want
more, while watching the diaper output.

I don't know why the sudden increase in supply, but she feels that
getting her hemoglobin levels up is probably what did it. She is
definitely looking way more energetic and healthy than she did on Day 5.

I will see her again next week and post another update!
