I have been working with a mom with sore nipples. Her nipples are shaped very
oddly. I wish I could draw a picture. Her nipples are fairly long and wide.
They get wider towards the end and there is a dimple on the end from which
the milk flows. Around this dimple is a bulbous area which has no milk ducts.
One area of this bulbous part gets pulled into the baby's mouth the farthest.
You can tell by how it looks when it comes out of the mouth. Since there are
no milk ducts there this area gets unrelieved pressure and is continually
sore. We tried all kinds of positions and could not get any change. We tried
the syringe and could not get the dimple to pop out. It is such a small area
of the nipple that is dimpled. Anyway this mom has persevered. She mostly
nurses but sometimes pumps when the pain gets too bad. She also uses tylenol
regularly. She always sounds so sad. It breaks my heart. Has anybody ever
seen a nipple like this? And what about regular tylenol use. I think I've
heard there could be risks, is it kidney damage? Anne Norton-Krawciw do you
have any info on this?
