Hi, folks: I am hoping some of you Lactnuts have had experience in
helping women find a pump flange that fits small, flattish, rather
non-elastic breasts and rather fleshy, bulbous nipples on a narrower
"stalk" (i.e. the nipple is wider than the part of the areola that it
sticks out from). This lady is Chinese. Her baby had a tongue-tie and
had major weight loss initially, doing somewhat better at breast since
the frenotomy, having bursts of good nutritive sucks with the SNS but
still very slow and tending to fall asleep frequently. Mother has been
hand expressing since the standard Lactina was ineffective, even with
the larger flanges, while the Avent Isis hand pump was very
uncomfortable (the tip of her nipple went past the neck of the flange).
Unfortunately, she has developed carpal tunnel syndrome, which is
seriously limiting her ability to hand express. I am trying to find an
electric pump with flanges that would be more likely to work for her.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Alicia Dermer, MD,
IBCLC.
