I'm hoping someone out there can give me some help with something that
came up today. A mother at our hospital just delivered and is planning
on nursing her baby. About half of her right nipple is covered with
small, yellowish growths which have been diagnosed as sebaceous cysts by
her OB. He told her he thought it would probably be okay to nurse on
that side, but wanted her to double-check with the lactation consultant
(Me!) My instinct is that there's really no reason not to, but that's
only based on instinct, and I'd rather base my reply to her on something
more than that. For what it's worth, this is the second time she had
this condition - the last time the cysts went away without treatment.

I'd appreciate any help I can get with this one.

TIA,
Lori Lerman, R.N. (Not IBCLC yet but looking forward to next summer when
I'll have enough hours to take the exam)
