I guess I'm not aware of new evidence that supports this but we've discussed this here before. It seems reasonable to encourage moms to keep pumping during shield use until mature milk increases and there are more signs and feedback that baby is having good transfer. After that, they can just be monitored that baby continues to get enough and mom's milk supply stays strong and then of course they wouldn't need to keep pumping.
