Michelle Scott wondered if keeping babies very close to mothers would result
in lower weight loss in the first 2 - 3 days. I visit at a hospital where
there is routine 24-hour rooming in and mothers may "bed-in" if they wish.
Unfortunately the weight loss still occurs in a large proportion of babies,
even in this "ideal" situation, I suspect because mothers are inexperienced
in reading their babies' cues, and I am still surprised if the discharge
weight (approx 48 - 72 hours post-partum) is the same as the birth weight.
