I usually stop the HMF once a baby reached 2.5-3.0 kg. If the baby is a slow grower, she could go to a couple of fortified feedings daily however she wants to feed it. However, you shouldn't use the HMF, but something more appropriate for a bigger baby. (A pediatric dietitian could help you with this.) I certainly agree (even while fortifying milk) that the baby should be put to breast to begin learning how to nurse. It definately is high time now. I wonder if the mom really wants to "breastfeed" or if she thinks she will just continue bottle feeding breast milk. I hope not. She certainly will need support to begin getting her baby to breast.
