I would take this argument one step further. Part of
our job is teaching parents to speak for their kids.
US (and I imagine other western cultures to some degree)
culture views kids as basically a pain in the neck, to
be endured and tolerated until they grow up and can be
productive members of society. I see far too little
joy among parents being with their kids.
Teaching parents the joy and wonder of parenting,
teaching them how babies see the world will go a long
way to parents truly being able to advocate for
their children. When that happens, society will have
to sit up and take notice. When that happens, babies
will be welcome everywhere and embraced for the wonderful
people that they are and for the world of things they have
to teach us, even before they are grown up and "productive
members of society."

OK I'm done for now.
