I like Dr. Jack's article "What Drugs can I take while BF" in The Canadian
Journal of Diagnosis (given to me by someone who attended his talk in
Jackson, MS, USA), in the Family Medicine Section, Jan 98. Gives a general
overview of med use while bf, pharmacology, suggested approach to
prescribing, specific examples of common drugs (antibiotics, incl. cipro,
tetracycline, metronidazole, fluconazole; antihypertensives; ACE inhibitors;
antidepressants; even contraceptives and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse).

I am going to copy this article and post in the ER docs lounge. Tuesday a
resident called me about some drugs, which were compatible w/ bf, and said
"but giving formula for a few days is no big deal." To which I replied
"Booooo. Yes it is, especially if you did not have to stop bf anyway." Not
even to mention that temporary stoppage often turns out to be permanent -
wish I would have thought to say that too.

Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC - can you tell I had a day to catch up on
lactnet?
